Northskull featured in Spindle Magazine
Spindle Magazine, an online lifestyle guide for fashion, music and the arts, has featured Northskull in the form of an interview with the Creative Director. In the article, Davron talks about how Northskull started, his views of masculinity and the future in men's jewellery.
Tell us about the Northskull brand.
Northskull is a men’s jewellery and accessories brand with a focus on designing contemporary pieces for the modern man. From season to season, we craft high quality collections that are directional in design, including technically innovative pieces as well as classic styles that have been updated with a distinctive Northskull twist.
Describe the typical Northskull man.
The typical Northskull man is someone who enjoys the arts and is culturally aware. They are well-travelled and like to experience new things in the company of similar-minded people. In addition to this, they are well-dressed and are seeking to add a refined element to their attire in the form of luxe accessories and are fashion-forward in their style.
What made you decide to design men’s jewellery?
Before the launch of the brand, men’s jewellery was limited to signet rings and cufflinks, but there was nothing on the market with a fashionable edge. With the changing trends in men’s fashion over the years where men are seeking to accessorise their looks with bracelets and necklaces and sensing a gap in the market, there was an opportunity to design unique and innovative pieces for men who appreciate a contemporary approach to traditional design.
Do you think there is a social stigma when it comes to men’s jewellery?
I don’t believe that there is a social stigma these days for men to wear jewellery. With the gender lines blurring in the fashion industry, it has become more acceptable for men to accessorise outfits with jewellery to add sharp appeal. Wearing jewellery is an effortless way to update any look and adds character.
Men’s jewellery is a growing market – do you think the rise of the ‘metrosexual’ man has contributed to this expansion?
The rise of the metrosexual man has definitely contributed to the growth in men’s jewellery over the past few years. For example, David Beckham is considered to be one of the most famous metrosexual men in the world and has experimented with many different styles for nearly two decades. He wears a lot of jewellery, particularly bracelets, and in turn this has influenced men to emulate his style by accessorising with a bracelet as this is an easy way to add a fashionable element to a look.
Tell us about your site re-launch.
Due to the evolution of the brand, we recently re-launched the website to bring a fresh aesthetic to the online store. We wanted to make sure that it looked sleek and refined to match with the jewellery designs and to also add a section called #ShareYourStyle so we could engage directly with our customers. It allows visitors to the site to see how to style their jewellery and be part of the brand story. We also wanted to share exciting news about Northskull by including a Journal section so viewers could explore more about the brand and to be inspired by the imagery and content.
What materials do you use when creating your product and what is the process behind it?
We source only the best semi-precious stones, leathers, exotic skins and luxury materials from the finest workshops around the world. Northskull is committed to crafting each design to the highest quality, ensuring that each piece blends original designs with premium materials for a luxe aesthetic. Furthermore, every single Northskull piece is made by skilled artisans handcrafting each element with meticulous attention to detail, resulting in jewellery that has been made with a high level of craftsmanship.
What’s your favourite piece of the current collection?
My favourite piece of the Spring/Summer collection is the Stazewski Cuff. The collection is inspired by abstract art in Eastern Europe, and this particular cuff is named after Henryk Stazewski who pioneered the geometric abstract art movement. The line engravings adds an interesting detail to the cuff, making it a truly unique piece that stands out and will match perfectly with both relaxed or smart tailoring.
Who is your favourite designer?
My favourite designer is Paul Smith as the tailoring is exceptional. He also reinvents classic styles and always comes up with something new each season. I especially like that his menswear has a modern edge and he is not afraid to play with prints and colours.
And finally, what’s the next big trend in men’s jewellery?
The next biggest trend in men’s jewellery is fine jewellery. As more men are accustomed to wearing jewellery, the next stage is to have investment pieces that are timeless.
